The visual, functional and conceptual grandeur of trees is owed in great part to the defining complement of its leaves. They are the perceptive finish that make the likeness of the forested natural world so discernible, and are synonymous with the atavistic allure of the living world.

The leaf comes in all shapes and forms, and its simplicity and enduring beauty has shaped its consistent pertinence to varying periods of jewelry’s history with some of the most prestigious designers worldwide.

Leaves hold a range of symbolic significance in many cultures, but in general, they symbolize fertility and growth. The deep, saturated greens of spring and summer depict hope, renewal and revival. I love leaves.

While the fullness of a strong spring green is undeniable, I resonate most with the hues and shades of the summer. The slow plodding of spring’s green warmth, sunshine and growth come to a full gallop in the stride of the summer months..

Here, nature is unrestrained, soaking in the glow of a now boundless and opened sky. In this natural warmth, flora and fauna alike bask in full ; every shade, hint of green and every desired floral tone is offered you in total. These summers purchase deep, rare greens that valley the rich blues and glowing expanses of a bright and unmarred sky.

In the deepest heart of each grove, woodland and forested expanse, the summer’s light will pierce canopy to the forest floor, punctuating the blossomed flower, the crawling insect, or the now well-trod path of an eager explorer. In the summer months, life takes a deep and needed breath.

I’ve always wanted to design a piece inspired by leaves, but I didn’t think it wise to attempt it without some research. I wanted to design something distinct, and I particularly wanted something that could eclectically assemble the themes of nature into one luxurious piece.

Mother nature is a continuous spectrum that offers unnumbered wonders, yet most of the time we either fail to cherish or notice the beauty at its simplest and most undeniable.

If we look closely as leaves, each of them has their own venational patterns that range parallel to reticulate and are contoured with seemingly impossible distinguishment and diversity.

This is what highlighted my inspiration for this gold leaf necklace. I wanted to design a purely unique leaf that could strike a balance between an authentic recreative honoring of mother nature, while capturing the luxurious stylized, quality I artistically strive for.

This 18k gold leaf necklace is the conjunction of the several characteristics and descriptions of the elements: Earth and Water. Pronounced on this design is a center pendant that captures the visuals of a leaf; parallel lines that, if inspected closely, guard the illusion of a hummingbird with wings held apart, holding the leaf in place.

I also cared to highlight the ‘surroundings’; of what would hold the center design together. I opted for a somewhat twisted appearance around the necklace. This was with the intent of forming a continuous effect from the leaf’s parallel lines that wrap around themselves, changing position, amounting to its own identity.

To further compliment this leaf necklace, I wanted to add a stone with a strong symbolic significance to perfect the piece. Like the summer months with varied tinctures and hues, pearls are the only gemstones that are created in synergy with other living creatures.

Silky and glistening with many shades, pearls carry the energy of water, purity and inner balance. It is a powerful healer and cleanser of body, mind and spirit.

Pearls symbolize confidence, prestige and personal strength. It may also be worn by elders as a symbol of their long life, endurance and wisdom. This gold leaf necklace comes in a full set that includes a gold leaf bangle and a timeless pair of leaf earrings.
